You are invited to come and discover the interesting world of beekeeping

Finally, the weather has changed from cool to very hot!
This change appears to have encouraged some colonies to swarm. Queen cell alert!

Apiary update.

The next apiary open day is the Saturday 6th June – 2:00-4:00pm, other dates as below:

6th June

20th June

4th July

18th July

1st Aug

15th Aug

5th Sept

The Cockington apiary is still evolving and any support/help from members is appreciated e.g. cutting back vegetation, tidying up, making frames, swarm donation etc.

There are currently 8 branch colonies i.e. 4 new (3 of which are being monitored in an ongoing research project), 1 plus a split and 2 newly caught swarms.

There are also 4 members colonies on the upper apiary.

Saturday 6th June will be an opportunity to make some ‘super’ frames plus carry out hive inspections, weather permitting. Check for Queen cells!

Congratulations to all those members that were involved in the organisation and running of the ‘Bees and Honey Tent’ at the Devon County Show. It was highly successful (again) with very strong support from the Torbay Beekeepers.

Also, thanks to Dave for donating a recently caught swarm to the Cockington Apiary.

Do any members have thoughts to share regarding a summer/ autumn BBQ? If so please let me know by email or WhatsApp.

Any questions please contact alan.rowse2@gmail.com

During the winter we hold training and Branch meetings at the The South Devon Food Hub, Longcombe, Totnes TQ9 6PW  and in the summer we meet on Saturdays at our outdoor apiary at Cockington.
(About 100 metres from the Drum Inn on right hand side of the lane leading up to Cockington Court)

New members will be warmly welcomed to any of the branch meetings and help and advice will be given prior to taking up membership.
